What is AI Overviews Rank Tracking?

AI Overviews Rank Tracking monitors your visibility inside Google's AI Overviews.
It shows where your site appears through Links (URL citations with ranking position) and Mentions (brand name appearances in the AI answer text).

How is AI Overviews Tracking different from regular SERP tracking?

Traditional SERP tracking checks your URL’s position in organic search results (the 10 blue links).
AI Overviews Rank Tracking tracks two metrics within the AI Overview:

• Whether your brand gets a Mention in the AI answer
• Where your URL ranks within the linked sources

When an AI Overview does not surface for a keyword or prompt, an “N/A” (not available) is displayed as the ranking status in ProRankTracker.
When an AI Overview exists, but your brand is not mentioned, or your URL is not a source, an “N/R” (Not Ranked) is displayed as the ranking status.

What is a Mention in AI Overviews?

A Mention can be a specific brand or product name that is included in the AI answer.
Brand and product names are often just text without links to websites, and are usually included in lists with additional context.

What is a Link in AI Overviews?

A Link is an external link that is either hyperlinked in the AI answer or listed as a citation or source to the side of or below the AI answer.

What can I track in an AI Overview?

You can track two types of AI visibility signals:

• Links (Citations & External URLs) - Track all URLs that the AI Overview references inside answers, including citations and external links. Track where your links rank and the total link count.
• Mentions (Text-Match Visibility) - Detect when your brand or product name appears in AI Overviews, even without a link. Shows sentence context and total mention count.

Can I see my competitors’ results?

Yes. When viewing Link results for a tracked prompt, you can see all other URLs the AI cited for the same prompt.
You can also add competitor brand names to track their Mentions inside AI Overviews.

How often are AI results updated?

PRT checks AI visibility daily, just like regular SERP tracking.
AI answers can change frequently - sometimes your link or brand is visible, and sometimes it isn’t.
With weekly or monthly checks, you might miss entire visibility windows.
Daily tracking ensures you don’t lose important trends or progress.

How is AI Rank Tracking priced and counted in my plan?

AI tracking uses Terms from your quota.
Each AI prompt + URL + platform/location = 2 Terms.
If you track the same prompt across multiple locations or platforms, each combination counts separately.
Organic rank tracking is simply 1 Term per keyword combination, for reference.
For example, 1,000 Terms = 500 AI prompt combinations, or a mix of AI + organic tracking, depending on how you allocate them.
